Africa always seemed so distant, so far away, and so inaccessible, that it never occurred to us that we would be spending 18 months of our lives in a remote part of Ghana in a small town named Sunyani. We actually thought we had received another couple's missionary call. But here we are, embarking on one of the most unusual and uncomfortable journeys of our lives.
After saying so many tearful goodbyes to family and loved ones, we entered the MTC (Missionary Training Center). It is truly a remarkable place with so many young men, young women, and senior couples, all dressed in Sunday best, hustling about, rushing to one class or another. The cafeteria is something to behold! It's huge, like 4 cruise ships shoved together; the only difference being that you have to bus your own dishes, but they even have a conveyor belt and sanitizer to wipe you hands after.
The hardest part so far was when Britty and Missi came to pick up the car and cell phone and we had to say our last goodbyes and it seemed that we were cut off from our known world. Our only communication is now the computer and we are so technically challenged, that it feels like a really bad joke. But we are pressing forward and anxious to get this journey on the road. We fly out Monday morning early (February 20, 2012) and have a stopover in New York, before flying to Accra, Ghana, Africa.
